6:30 am. wake up 8:30 am. KC arrives, pick up Navneet, then to emeryville to meet Dan 9:45 am. Find out that bandits stole Dan's wheel, and my tires need to be replaced. We end up renting a mini-van at Oakland airport. 2 pm. After picking up our mountaineering gear from REI (crampons, ice axe, glacier boots, helmet),we're finally on the road. 7 pm. Arrive at Mt. Shasta, have dinner, and get ready for hike. 10 pm. Start hike at Bunny Flat tralhead. We had planned a few hours sleep before starting, but that didn't happen. 11 pm. Reach Horse Camp. Glacier boots are killing our feet already. We don't reach the snow for another hour. 4 am. Realize that we should have put on our crampons *before* heading up the icy slope. 4:30 am. Reach Helen Lake where KC and Dan rest in the tent of two good samaritan hikers. Navneet and I continue on after agreeing to meet them at the tent in 3 hours. 7 am. Navneet and I turn around close to the Red Banks. 12 pm. Arrive back at our minivan in Bunny Flat trailhead. 6 pm. Back at Berkeley. Woohoo, another great bay area weekend excursion. Here are the rest of the PHOTOS.
